PostScan Mail Alternative in Chicago: A Full Comparison

PostScan Mail is a national network sold through one app. Lobi Space is the building. Here is exactly how the two differ if your address has to work in Chicago.

If you are searching for a PostScan Mail alternative in Chicago, the useful question is not which app has more features. It is whether you are buying a mail service or an address.

PostScan Mail is a national network. It does not own most of the addresses it sells. It partners with mailbox stores and office operators across the country, puts them all behind one clean app, and resells the space. That model is a genuinely good fit for some businesses. It is a poor fit for others, and the difference is almost entirely about how much your address has to do.

We are the other kind. Lobi Space is a single staffed building at 1655 S Blue Island Ave in Pilsen, operating since 2015. When you rent an address here, you are renting from the people who unlock the door in the morning.

The core difference: reseller versus operator

With a network, there are three parties in the transaction. You, the platform that took your payment, and whichever local site actually receives your post. Most of the time that separation is invisible and everything works.

It stops being invisible when something goes sideways.

  • Form 1583 signatures. Your USPS form has to name the operator who is authorised to receive your post. On a network, that is whoever runs the partner site, not the brand on your invoice.
  • Escalation. If a package is misrouted or a courier refuses to leave something, you contact platform support, who contact the site. Here, you contact the person holding the parcel.
  • Continuity. Network partners come and go. When a partner site leaves the platform, subscribers at that address have to move. A building you can drive to does not churn out of a marketplace.
  • Verification. Banks, licensing bodies and Google sometimes verify an address by calling it or sending someone. A front desk that knows your business name answers those calls differently than a scanning back office.

What PostScan Mail is genuinely good at

We are not going to pretend it is a bad product. It is not.

  • Footprint. Hundreds of addresses across nearly every state. If you want a Miami address on Monday and a Denver one later, a network is the only sane way to do that.
  • Entry price. Low starting tiers, because a scan-and-forward workflow is cheap to run at volume.
  • Software. The dashboard, scan requests and forwarding flow are mature and well built.
  • No local tie required. You never have to be anywhere near your address.

If your company is fully remote, your post is mostly junk and the occasional cheque, and your address will never appear on a licence, a lease or a storefront listing, a scanning network is cheaper than us and will serve you well. Take it, honestly.

Where a network address runs out in Chicago

The moment your address represents a real Chicago business, the requirements change.

City and state filings. Illinois LLC paperwork and City of Chicago business licensing both expect a real street address with a documented right to use it. We give members a signed agreement they can produce. It is not a guarantee of approval, but it is the document reviewers ask for.

Banking. Business bank applications routinely stall on addresses that pattern-match to mail-forwarding operations. An address attached to an operating office with a lease behaves differently.

Google Business Profile. Google verifies. A staffed location that can receive a postcard, take a call and show a real interior tends to survive that process. A pure scanning site frequently does not.

Same-day access. Freight brokers, attorneys and ecommerce sellers regularly need something in hand today. Free on-demand pickup, free parking on site, and a desk that signs for FedEx, UPS, DHL and Amazon.

Rooms. Sooner or later a client, an auditor or a hire wants to sit down with you. A scanning service has no answer to that. We have meeting rooms, a private office option and a podcast and video studio.

Pricing, plainly

  • Business Mailbox Pro — $25/mo, or $20/mo billed annually, plus a $50 setup fee. 10 mail items and 10 scans per month, one entity, email alerts, free pickup, $5 plus postage forwarding.
  • Business Mailbox Premium — $55/mo, or $45/mo billed annually. 50 items and 50 scans, text alerts, and a year of Illinois registered agent service included.
  • Virtual Office — adds meeting room hours, a business-grade agreement and full front-desk service.

Scan-only networks generally start lower than this, and they should: they are selling less. Compare total cost honestly. If you would otherwise buy a notary appointment, a registered agent subscription and a day office elsewhere, the gap closes fast, and often reverses.

Switching from PostScan Mail to Lobi Space

It takes about a week, most of which is waiting on USPS.

1. Pick a plan. Mailbox Pro if you mostly need post handled, Virtual Office if the address is going on filings and you want rooms.

2. Complete Form 1583. Two forms of ID, one showing the address. Our notary handles the notarisation on site, free for members, so you are not chasing an appointment.

3. Redirect the old address. File a change of address with your current provider and set forwarding to your new Chicago address for the overlap period.

4. Update everything that matters. Secretary of State filing, registered agent, bank, Google Business Profile, invoices, insurers and your top vendors. Keep the old box open for 30 days while stragglers arrive.

Which one you should pick

Pick the network if you want address flexibility across states, you never need to be present, and nothing official depends on where your post lands. It is cheaper and it will do the job.

Pick us if your business is Chicago-based, your address will appear on a licence, a lease, a bank application or a Google listing, and you would like a place you can actually walk into. A building costs more than a scanner because a building is more than a scanner.

Pilsen, since 2015, serving South and West Side businesses. See pricing, book a tour, or look at the building first.
