Forming an Illinois LLC comes down to one document, the Articles of Organization, filed with the Secretary of State. The state filing fee is $150. That is the number people search for, so here is the honest version of what you pay and why.
The $150 goes to the state. On top of that, you may choose to add an EIN, an operating agreement, or a registered agent, each of which is optional and priced separately. The form itself asks for a handful of things: your company name, its purpose, the address, and a registered agent. Simple on paper, until a name conflict or a wrong address bounces the filing back and you start over.
